ING’s Early Career Group (“ECG”) is a best-in-class program providing junior talent the opportunity to learn more about core and client facing areas across ING’s Capital Markets and Advisory (“CMA”). The aim of this program is to upskill talent and prepare you for future roles in our organization. You will receive high quality on-the-job trainings for both hard- and soft-skills which will ensure you a well-equipped to become a future, rounded banker.

During the program, junior analysts will get hands-on experience of what is involved in the day-to-day role as a junior team member across CMA departments such as Corporate Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Loan Distributions, Corporate Investments and Acquisition Finance teams. The program comprises rotations of up to 12 months during the first 36 months along the three main streams: Advisory, Capital Markets and Structuring. In each rotation, you will operate as part of a team responsible for the origination, execution, and distribution of CMA transactions.

After completing the program, you will put your skills to work across the highly dynamic CMA teams with like-minded and communicative people and support ING’s teams across the entire banking value chain before gradually deciding which area you want to focus on.

Your Home Base “Debt Capital Markets”

In your new role, you will be an integral part of the ECG and its concept from day one. As such you will rotate through the CMA organization in your Analyst years. Your home base department will be the Corporate Debt Capital Markets (“DCM”) team in Amsterdam for at least 12 months. Thereafter, you will continue rotating for a duration of 6-12 months per rotation.

The DCM team covers investment grade corporate bond issuers in the Northern European region. DCM is part of ING’s Global Capital Markets team and is consistently top-ranked in European IG Corporate league tables and a credible global leader on Sustainability Structuring topics (Green Bonds, SLB, etc.). The group works closely together with relationship managers and other product specialist within the ING network advising on a wide range of funding opportunities in the Capital Markets.

Job description

  • Build knowledge of the activities and personnel of key clients, equity and debt products available in the market and how corporate finance, leveraged finance, loan underwriting and distribution, capital markets, and corporate investments each work

  • Day to day support of (senior) originators in all aspects of client advisory and coverage with the aim to win new business

  • Origination including (a) drafting marketing materials including pitch books and presentations; (b) detailed equity/debt analysis of client/targets/situation including valuation and/or credit analysis (as relevant); (c) market research, competitor analysis and appropriate capital structure reviews (as relevant); (d) identification of potential buyers’ universe

  • Deal execution including (a) valuation, pricing, credit analysis and/or financial analysis; (b) key transaction administration and/or deal documentation; (c) Day-to-Day process coordination and communication with clients and other advisers; (d) assistance in the drafting of transaction documentation; (e) processing of documents for internal project approvals

  • Staying on top of current market developments and coordinating market and pricing updates

  • Liaising closely with colleagues in other CMA departments to deliver integrated solutions to ING’s clients

  • Any other ad-hoc analysis and projects as required by the team your working in

  • Proper record keeping, preparing transaction files for compliance and other internal control purposes. Ensure you and your team complies with all legal, regulatory and ethical standards including ING policies, procedures and Orange Code

Who we are looking for

  • Academic degree

  • Relevant experience in Debt Capital Markets (analyst or internship position) or other relevant experience in the finance industry

  • Basic knowledge of macroeconomics, international bond markets and fixed income instruments

  • Excellent analytical skills with an eye for detail

  • Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills and ability to present in a coherent, convincing and confident manner

  • Go-getter with a strong work ethic, flexibility of approach, the willingness to work under tight timelines, the ability to multi-task and with an attention for detail

  • Good command of spoken and written English. Foreign language capacity is helpful

  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player

  • Advanced Word, Power Point and Excel skills
