You are an inspiring IT Area Lead (ITAL) for the Investing domain in Wholesale Banking (WB) Tech/ FM&GT. You draw energy from creating an environment where people can reach their full potential and where squads have the confidence to take responsibility when it comes to realizing value to ING and its customers. You act as an ambassador for IT to all stakeholders within and outside of WB Tech through frequent interaction and alignment. You’re reporting directly into the global IT Lead FM&GT.

The team


WB Tech/FM&GT is responsible for all changes to applications in the field of FM and GT. The scope is both cross-border and cross-domain and is implemented by centrally managed, international, virtual support teams. FM&GT has formulated a transformation and digitization strategy for the coming years, focus on servicing clients through new channels, with competitive prices, and optimal capital levels.
You are responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the systems used in WB for trading and processing Cash Equity, Equity Derivatives, Commodity Derivatives, Fixed Income, and Securities Financing products. The business is active in Europe, the UK, Asia, and America. It involves implementing multiple centralized Front Office, Back Office, and risk system for FM globally for Commodities, Equity Derivatives, Repo and Cash Equities products. These systems are key for Front Office Trading and Group Treasury to capture transactions and for the processing of the transactions from Payments, Accounting, and Confirmation perspective. In the event the systems are not working, we cannot run trading and processing of Commodities, Equity Derivatives, Repo and Cash Equities products which had a combined PnL of 300 million euros in 2023.
As the global ITAL you are currently responsible for around 115 Engineers in 7 countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, the Philippines, India, UK, Singapore. You have 7 NL based direct reports (IT Chapter Leads).

Role and responsibilities


You are end-to-end responsible for your IT area including cost effective change delivery, quality of service, and IT security in line with in-and external requirements, together with the Product Area Lead (PAL) of Investing
You are accountable for defining and implementing the Tech strategy for the area in alignment with the global tech and business strategy and priorities. Your deliveries are key to the success of the strategic FM Enhancement program
You lead the delivery of our software by squads in your area where we live up to our promises with respect to quality, timelines, and functional fit
You ensure reliable operation of our IT assets where Service Level Objectives are met
You hold the IT Custodianship of your applications with an effective practice to keep IT Risk within Risk Appetite, handling 14 applications: 7 Critical and 7 High, of which 6 SOx
You build effective relationships with your stakeholders, mainly Front Office, Back Office, Risk, and Group Treasury, and contribute to assure that the Product Roadmaps and Quarterly Business Reviews in your area contain the right sustainable mix of Features and maintainability, reliability, and security items
You manage vendors for the suppliers of commercial off the shelf software. You drive the relationships with our main vendors, to an effective and beneficial collaboration. The role requires a large amount of Vendor Management
You provide technical leadership and growing craftsmanship on the part of IT Chapters in your area with an emphasis on
Analytics of customer and systems’ behavior
Global workforce planning and people-oriented management, aimed at the growth of IT Chapter Leads and Engineers
Reduction of Infra consumption by monitoring utilization and containerization
Proper budget control and reduction of Infra costs through optimizations
IT automation
Fact-based analysis and continuous improvement focus
Organize for flow of delivery, by strengthening the digital product level and applying Team Topologies
You’re responsible for engagement and development of ING and hired staff, steering on craftmanship to maintain a highly skilled and motivated workforce
Close integration of our efforts with Touchpoint Architecture with respect to both contributing to it as well as consumption
Close collaboration with our ING Hubs across the globe and our SSI partners in India


About you

  • Master‘s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field
  • Experienced IT leader with 5+ years’ experience in IT management roles
  • 5+ years of past Engineering experience, preferably in creating highly scalable mission-critical applications and/or managing commercial off-the-shelf-software
  • Genuinely interested in and understand the FM&GT business
  • Excellent understanding of how to organize internal software development and operations effectively, stays on top of the trends as technology changes and has a strong technical vision for the future
  • Highly appreciated team player who collaborates easily with demanding business stakeholders and embraces the multi-disciplinary Agile Way of Working
  • Loves technology and stays up to date on relevant new developments
  • Values a multi-cultured environment where English is the working language, and gets easily on with people from different cultural backgrounds
