JAVA Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer(Java) to strengthen our mortgage development teams.

Mortgages Netherlands

You will be joining a team that will be leading the implementation of our gateway connection to our 3rd Party SaaS partner.

Our stack

Our back-end APIs are created with an internal Spring (Boot) based framework and run on virtualized hardware. To comply with our regulators demands, our release process can feel bureaucratic from time to time. This means that you need to be a quick learner to understand them, and you need to have the ambition to improve and automate as much as possible.

Roles & Responsibilities 

• You will be part of a squad: a self-managing, autonomous unit with end-to-end responsibility for a customer journey, e.g. the online scheduling of an appointment with a mortgage advisor, or interest rate adjustments and mortgage repayment
• You will be involved in the whole development lifecycle, from refining user stories until monitoring software in production, where your main focus will be coding
• You coach and help the team to the next level
• You speak up and challenge decisions (you ask why things are done instead of just doing them

How to Succeed

• Minimum of 5+ years of work experience as a Java developer
• Good understanding of micro-services architecture patterns
• A minimum of 4+ years of experience in Maven and Spring (Boot)
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (at least Git and Jenkins/Azure DevOps)
• Affinity with Kafka
• Experience with the Agile/Scrum/Kanban way of working
• Proficient in English
• You are open and you give & accept direct feedback
• You have a focus on quality and challenge your colleagues (e.g. during peer reviews)
• You have a strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general. Ability to transfer this knowledge back to ING
• Experience with interacting with 3rd Party SaaS solutions

Nice to Have

• Experience with docker/containerization
• Experience with Monitoring & Observability (ELK stack or similar)
• Experience with Mortgages Domain
