The team is part of the CRO / NFR / PMR / Global Oversight & Reporting domain. Professionals in this team focus on embedding and overseeing the implementation of Operational Risk and IT Risk frameworks across all NFR locations, ensuring consistent application and effective risk management, as well as providing strong non-financial risk (NFR) reporting processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving standardization and efficiency across global locations. The team’s work has a direct impact on ING’s global risk posture and regulatory compliance, as well as quality and reliability of ING’s risk reporting.

Specific Function

The team supports the implementation and coordination of group-wide Operational Risk and IT Risk policies, NFR Framework and related global procedures. They address complex risk challenges, facilitate training and knowledge sharing, and act as the interface between NFR locations and Centers of Excellence (COEs). The role’s impact is global, influencing risk management practices across diverse business lines and geographies. Success in this role requires strong stakeholder management, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to drive framework adoption and compliance.  

Job Description

As an NFR Risk Oversight Expert, you will:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for embedding risk policies and procedures in NFR locations.
  • Coordinate between local teams and global COEs to ensure frameworks are fit for purpose and consistently applied.
  • Support your team lead in driving framework adherence, planning NFR activities, and coordinating policy rollouts.
  • Oversee global project portfolios and facilitate community engagement.
  • Provide training and support to local NFR teams, ensuring a consistent understanding and execution of risk oversight.
  • Challenge and review group-wide processes from an operational risk perspective, ensuring high-quality reporting and insights.
  • This role is meaningful for those passionate about risk management, cross-functional collaboration, and driving positive change and simplification across a global organization.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leading the rollout and embedding of group-wide NFR policies across locations.
  • Overseeing and supporting local NFR teams in policy adoption and framework implementation.
  • Coordinating with COEs and other stakeholders to ensure frameworks are practical and effective and NFR involvement is riskbased.
  • Managing oversight initiatives (e.g., NFRCs, MT calls) on behalf of the Head of PMR.
  • Supporting second-line challenge of risk assessments and control standards for operational and IT risks.
  • Delivering training sessions and building knowledge bases for local teams.
  • Monitoring business lines through qualitative spot checks of risk data.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent reporting of non-financial risk data.
  • Engaging with the global NFR community and supporting divisional oversight processes.

Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • University degree (MBA, MSc Finance, LLM, or similar).
  • 10+ years of overall work experience, min. 3 years of experience in NFR
  • Specialized knowledge in IT Risk (for IT Risk role) or Operational Risk (for ORM role).
  • Proven experience in non-financial risk management and governance.
  • Experience managing Operational or IT Risk at location or portfolio level.
  • Strong background in cross-functional and cross-country collaboration.
  • Familiarity with diverse regulatory environments.
  • Track record in policy rollout, embedding frameworks, and delivering high-quality reporting.
  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and exposure to supervisory boards.
  • Key soft skills: strategic thinking, stakeholder management, influencing, communication, analytical mindset, sound judgment, cultural sensitivity, and ability to lead through change.
