Platform Engineer - Global Observability Platform

We are looking for you, if you:

• have strong knowledge of and extensive experience with microservices and monitoring,

• have extensive knowledge of and experience with Azure DevOps pipelines,

• have knowledge of Cloud Technologies, Ansible, Openshift, Cassandra and Kafka,

• have experience with Terraform,

• have experience with AI (LLM, Prompting, Coding),

• have 5+ years solid experience with Go / Java or Python,

• have experience with Public Cloud providers (Azure, GCP) and solutions working on the cloud is an advantage,

• have higher education in (Information) Technology or work experience that demonstrates you operate on this level,

• have excellent command of the English language,

• is formidable team player skills, empowering and challenging the squad members in a constructive way.

You'll get extra points for:

• good understanding of IT and building platforms,

• being able to easily switch contexts from engineers, architects, to stakeholders, to management,

• being energetic and proactive Engineer,

• having positive “Do it-Try it-Fix it” mentality,

• have experience with OpenTelemetry (Logging, Metrics and Tracing).

Your responsibilities:

• designing, implementing and deploying microservices on K8S,

• defining and building scalable model for deploying a global observability platform in multi-Claud,

• together with your fellow squad-members, responsibility for the future of ING’s observability solution.

Department is at the IT heart of ING and the purpose is to build a truly Global Observability Platform that enables ING services to run seamlessly and puts engineers in control of their observability. They are a diverse team working from all over the world with passion for engineering and great attention to non-functional requirements. They trust our engineers, and they guide them in making an impact and in their professional growth.

The Platform – Monitoring Data Pipeline (MDPL):

At ING the landscape has become increasingly more complex with more applications added every day. They depend and rely on each other to deliver a reliable service to our customers that demands the very best of us.

Every single day, our engineers typically look at metrics, traces and logs to assess the health of their application, all of which need to be pulled from different sources and interfaces. MDPL provides a solution where they can combine data with just a few clicks but being connected and dependent on a large chain of applications raises the need for insights beyond their application to run a reliable service.

Platform Engineering :

Platform Engineering is responsible for monitoring and observability data services, such as providing components for onboarding, data storage, dashboarding, alerting and offering observability insights to all ING engineers globally. You will support the observability core team in running the core capabilities and increasing observability maturity across ING.
The role naming convention in the global ING job architecture will be “Engineer III”.
