ING
Principal Transaction Approval - Asset Based Finance
Empowering responsible growth through smart credit decisions
Join our dynamic Sector & Asset Based Finance team, where you’ll combine analytical expertise with strategic thinking to manage complex credit transactions for leading Dutch Mid Corporate clients. We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on leader to guide our Leasing & Commercial Finance risk team. You’ll be at the heart of complex credit decisions, working closely with commercial colleagues and shaping the future of asset-based finance. This is your chance to make a real impact, on our clients, our portfolio, and your team. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy combining analytical depth with leadership, we’d love to meet you.
The team
The Transaction Approval & Advice (TA&A) department is responsible for analysing, advising on, and approving tailored lending transactions. We ensure these align with ING’s risk appetite while supporting sustainable business growth. Our 50 risk managers are organised into three teams:
Portfolio (loans ≤ €5M)
Sector & Asset Based Finance (> €5M)
Specialised Lending (Sustainable Finance, Structured Debt & Equity)
You’ll join the Sector & Asset Based Finance team, which consists of 20 professionals across three industry clusters. Your focus will be on Asset Based Finance (ABF), including ING Lease and ING Commercial Finance. We are a dynamic and collaborative team, working closely with Front Office and Sales to take responsible credit risks. We support each other, step in when needed, and value flexibility and a proactive mindset; especially given the fast-paced nature of our work. If suitable, we offer increased responsibilities to match your personal learning curve. Our working language is Dutch, so fluency is essential
Role and responsibilities
You’ll lead a team of 5 risk managers and act as the key contact for ING Lease and ING Commercial Finance. You’ll oversee portfolio performance, support product development, and ensure alignment between 1st and 2nd line responsibilities. You’ll also co-lead team development, coaching, and performance evaluation.
In addition to your leadership role, you’ll be hands-on in managing and advising on client transactions - from origination to closing - while safeguarding ING’s credit risk appetite.
Furthermore, you will:
Approve and advise on credit applications, modifications, and reviews
Monitor the ABF portfolio and propose improvements
Define and advise on risk appetite for ABF products
Coach and develop team members
Collaborate with front office and support departments
Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ensure compliance with credit policies and approval conditions
Support other Sector & ABF teams when needed
Contribute to risk policy development and strategic projects
How to succeed

Proven experience in Asset Based Finance (preferred)

A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
A proactive, hands-on attitude with high integrity
