Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to service the needs of ING’s clients with products, services and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

You will work in one of the larger dealing rooms of ING in Europe and be part of the Client Solutions Group (“CSG”) team, a highly specialised team within Financial Markets Sales. CSG  is a global team (with presence in dealing rooms of Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Singapore, and New York), that works together with local Sales teams in 27 locations to service our clients. CSG consists of product experts specialised in Commodities, FX Options, Rates,  Equity and Financing solutions. The CSG Commodities team in EMEA is a team of 6 OTC derivatives professionals.

Your role

We are looking for an experienced commodities structuring and sales professional that can be a link between origination sales coverage, clients, sector relationship bankers, commodity trading, credit exposure management, and senior FM management. You will also collaborate with ING’s CSG Commodity professionals in Asia and the Americas to identify and develop new product offerings aligned with the needs of ING’s client base. You will be focused on growing the non-flow part of our commodity franchise and have  product P&L targets

Your key responsibilities

  • Help drive our new product development agenda in commodities and assume responsibility for setting up new lines of business
  • Idea generation: lead and coordinate idea generation for the commodities asset class and work closely with sales and trading colleagues, with a focus on enhancing client conversations on potential FM opportunities
  • Work closely with origination sales coverage to increase flow and non-flow product penetration with existing clients and identify new potential commodity customers; help develop junior talent to manage day-to-day execution
  • Visit clients and sales locations in EMEA together with the local origination sales to pitch commodities solutions
  • Continuously educate and support FM colleagues, Sector Coverage and Product colleagues, as well as clients on commodity products
  • Support ING’s trading desk in delivering on its commodities growth plan and representing sales in steering strategic priorities; alignment with commodity trading is key to ensure commodity sales and trading act as one team
  • Provide technical and execution expertise on structured commodity hedging and funding solutions (e.g. prepay transactions, project finance-related hedging, hedge coordination)
  • Continuously identify, propose, and implement innovative or alternative ideas to improve the customer journey and/or the ING WB value proposition which is pivotal when developing new businesses or thought solutions
  • Behaviours: be a role model, supporting and fostering a culture of good cooperation between origination sales, global FM sector leads and CSG (Triangle approach). Ideal candidates will have prior experience with structuring, negotiating, and executing commodity hedging programs, with demonstrated expertise in structured commodity transactions. In addition to providing structuring expertise for specific transactions, the selected candidate will help Origination Sales colleagues proactively source opportunities to position ING as a lead for any hedging business. The ideal candidate will show strong entrepreneurship to build on a successful platform by looking for incremental business with new or existing clients, products, or industries.

You will also need

  • Master’s degree in econometrics, business economics, financial engineering, and/or CFA or equivalent academics
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in commodity derivatives products (minimum of 8 years of experience) and international finance (debt capital markets, M&A); knowledge on (hedge) accounting and financial risk management is considered a plus
  • In depth understanding of Energy and/or Metals markets required, experience with carbon and/or power derivatives is considered a plus.
  • Proven track record in originating, structuring and executing commodity derivatives products and executing complex deals with a strong understanding of the risks related to the underlying products
  • Demonstrated track record of collaborating with different stakeholders with end-to-end experience in new products delivery.
  • In depth understanding of the credit and legal aspects of derivatives, including ISDA documentation; able to lead negotiation of ISDA documentation in collaboration with internal legal and risk teams
  • Ability to work independently on various transactions/projects at the same time, often under pressure, and to prioritize resources accordingly.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and governance is a must
  • Demonstrate Orange Code values and behaviors
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
