Senior ESG Compliance Officer
As a Senior ESG Compliance Officer you will join a team of ESG experts within the CC&E team. You will work closely together with designated ESG Compliance Officers across ING’s footprint in a hybrid ESG Compliance Community responsible for embedding and managing ESG compliance risks across ING’s organisation. The ESG Compliance team is part of the Group CC&E (2LoD).
The team is working together with colleagues in the 2LoD ESG Compliance Community sharing knowledge and expertise, as well as skills needed to best perform the job.
The team is working with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, across the different lines of defence, and offers an environment which provides a global overview on the embedding of the relevant ESG compliance requirements and controls within the business, providing an opportunity to manage internal and external relationships and learn from these.
Roles and responsibilities
As a Senior ESG Compliance Officer
You drive and support ESG compliance risk management, in close collaboration with colleagues in Compliance, other Risk Functions and the 1st line of defence;
You support in developing relevant ESG expertise across Group Compliance and the Compliance Community;
You are a content matter expert on ESG compliance risk management, as a main contact for specific ESG topics you both respond to advice requests and reach out pro-actively yourself;
You are able to anticipate stakeholder demands, take stakeholders along during your journey by excellent stakeholder management and have the ability to adapt your approach depending on the stakeholders involved;
You are able to capture (rapid) changes in laws and regulations, reputation demands and changes in the business;
You advise, challenge and follow-up on monitoring thereof in close collaboration and consultation with your colleagues in the ESG Compliance Community;
You support in globally monitoring the design and operating effectiveness of procedures to ensure that the relevant policies and their specific objectives are realised, achieving this through close collaboration with the Group Compliance Quality Assurance colleagues.

As a Senior ESG Compliance Officer you have the following traits and experience:
You have an excellent understanding of high reputational and financial downside risks related to ING’s sustainability strategy and ING’s obligations based on compliance with relevant laws and regulations as well as meeting societal expectations;
You are able to understand the impact of a rapidly changing and increasing regulatory environment on Compliance and the wider organisation;
You have experience with leading the drafting and maintenance of policies, standards etc.;
You have the ability to bring pragmatic solutions to any potential problems raised;
You have an expert opinion about ESG compliance risks and are able to effectively communicate your view, conveying complex messages in simple ways;
You have a university degree or equivalent;
You have a minimal 5 years’ experience in non-financial risk management/Compliance activities and you know how to work with risk frameworks;
You have an excellent level of English (verbal/written).
You are an energetic, pragmatic person with a critical mindset and don’t hesitate to speak up;
You feel comfortable in an exploratory and changing environment and are able to think ahead of the game and adapt quickly;
You are eager to explore the ‘’why’’ behind the regulatory requirements and creative to translate these into the ING risk management environment;
You work independently, are curious and are able to think and act out of the box when required and take accountability;
You can prioritise and quickly come to the essence of issues;
You are strong in risk management;
You are a team player, you trust others and can be trusted;
You are people-focussed, connecting and interacting with others is something that comes naturally to you;
You have excellent stakeholder management capabilities;
You give and ask constructive feedback and help others to succeed;
