Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to service the needs of ING’s clients with products, services and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

The team


The FMGT Tribe is the change delivery department of Financial Markets (‘FM’) and Group Treasury (‘GT’) that has as purpose to realize our clients’ dreams by connecting them to global markets, providing financial solutions, and delivering long lasting value. Hedging and Investing product area provide front to back product capabilities delivered mainly by vendor applications. You will be part of the wider Wholesale Banking Enterprise Architecture team and functionally part of the FMGT EA team consisting of an Enterprise Architect, Domain and Solution Architects.

Roles and responsibilities

The solution architect strengthens the design and implementation quality of IT Systems, optimizing technology infrastructure, operational efficiency, scalability, reliability and security, ensuring seamless alignment between design and implementation and business and enterprise architecture. You are in the lead to:

  • define a solution for new initiatives, e.g. target system for collateral management, target system for Matching, etc.
  • interact with vendors to implement or upgrade new or existing systems and influence technical roadmaps accordingly
  • create solution architecture diagrams that support epic / feature design & delivery.
  • assist in creating Infrastructure Diagrams per system, that help engineers to troubleshoot technical (infra) issues and find the correct infra teams to help out to solve issues.
  • improve the security and stability of the systems in the IT Area, e.g.
    • setting the standards by designing resilient and robust systems.
    • identify Single Points of Failure and provide support to resolve these
    • review capacity management practices and set standards
  • define an IT strategy for the systems in the IT Area whenever a new technology comes up, e.g. applying the cloud strategy per system as it was defined in ING
  • make sure that teams are keeping up with ING tech standard and standard solutions offered in the bank
  • be a trusted advisor towards engineers in the squads

  • Domain knowledge, good understanding of Financial Markets
  • Strong in system design and integration. Focusing on implementation details, following the architectural plan and release objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relevant architectural artifacts, including application architectures, data models and other relevant documentation
  • Up to date with the latest technology trends, frameworks, patterns, concepts and languages.
  • Good understanding of ING‘s technology standards and solutions.
  • Foster reuse across the enterprise and ensure the developed solution will be exposed for future potential reuse

  • Strong on tech, ability to guide and verify implementations
  • You are curious keep up to date with latest trends in IT in general and specifically within ING.
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility
  • Excellent analytical skills and a clear way of translating abstract concepts into implementable solutions
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to design software solutions that meet their needs and align with ING’s strategic goals
  • Experience in producing and presenting solution architecture
  • Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of guiding and mentoring project teams to achieve project objectives
