ING’s Hydrocarbons & New Energies (H&NE) team is part of the wider Energy Sector Coverage team, which is one of the global specialist sector coverage teams and sits at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking. We provide banking services including complex financial solutions to Energy clients.

The team

The Hydrocarbons & New Energies team covers the full spectrum of oil and gas exploration and production companies to oil-gas infrastructure space, refineries, base chemical producers and related service providers. Although the sector is still dominated by fossil hydrocarbons as feedstock for fuels and materials, clients and prospects are developing technologies and solutions to diversify away from the traditional oil & gas based business models. The team is supported by the Energy Technical Team, who is currently looking for an internship student.

In Amsterdam a dedicated H&NE team of 11 specialists focusses on providing financial solutions in the form of financing and/or advisory to single project companies and larger corporates in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The team is part of a global network with teams located in London, Brussels, Frankfurt, New York, Houston, Singapore, and Australia.

ING’s H&NE Technical Team offers an exciting internship opportunity for ambitious and talented students who enjoy working in an international environment and who are in the final phase of their bachelor or master study. We offer a stimulating and dynamic international working environment.

Roles and responsibilities

You will be assisting with the daily activities of the Technical Team on reviewing the technical aspects of existing transactions and new business opportunities in cooperation with team members of the Tech team. The Technical Team advises the commercial teams and risk management teams globally on critical aspects of the client projects. As a member of a small, highly skilled team, you will support the execution of financial transactions.

You are expected to have contact with industry clients, support functions within ING (e.g. risk management) and possibly other product departments.

What do we offer?

  • Live deal-execution experience in a dynamic environment.
  • Overview of current market on new energy technologies.
  • On the job training and will be seen as a full member of the technical team.
  • Exposure to complex (project) financings requiring cooperation with international companies, law firms, consultants, banks and development financial institutions as well as other ING departments.
  • Opportunity to create a network within ING as well as in the wider banking and commodity sector.

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

We are looking for customer-oriented and result-driven candidates that have a technical background and strong analytical skills combined with excellent presentation and communication skills. You have commercial acumen, high proficiency in English (both spoken and written), you are self-motivated with a high degree of initiative to get things done and you are an excellent team player. ING promotes diversity. Financial knowledge is not a prerequisite, but affinity with the financial services sector is important.

Rewards and benefits

This is a great opportunity to be part of an international team with professionals from various backgrounds and to obtain a solid overview of different products a bank can offer, capital markets and ABS.

 You’ll also benefit from:

  • Internship allowance of 700 EUR based on a 36-hour work week
  • Your own work laptop
  • Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration
  • Personal growth in a professional setting and valuable experience
  • An informal international working environment

During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU passport holders).
