Technical data centre specialist

As a Technical Data Centre Specialist, you will be part of a facility operations team within the Data Centre & Networks department. This department falls under ING's Tech Infrastructure & Engineering organization.

Together with your colleagues, you will work on the management, maintenance, and changes/projects of the technical facilities (mechanical and electrical) of ING's Global strategic data centre, and you will be involved in an advisory capacity in the services of ING's colocation data centre in the Netherlands (and possibly abroad). Within this work, the emphasis is on service continuity and setting up and implementing projects for, among other things, life cycle management. We like to focus on new development and are open to your ideas on management, renewal, and maintenance of this very important infrastructure for ING.

This is what you are going to do:

In a small team, you ensure continuity of high-quality technical installations, such as power, cooling, fire alarm, mechanical and electrical installations. In doing so, you will contribute to the availability of online applications used by ING customers.

As a technical data centre specialist, the main emphasis of your role will be to control the continuity and availability of the technical installations for the data centre. Steering, monitoring, and ensuring the day-to-day running of the technical preventive and corrective maintenance of the technical installations, such as electrical systems (LV and HV), UPS systems, generators, cooling systems and fire alarm system.

During office hours, you coordinate complex maintenance activities in the field of HVAC, electrical engineering, and measurement & control technology, which are carried out by our suppliers. You also carry out tests in installations, systems and perform switching operations.

You are (jointly) responsible for various projects within the data centre environment. This could be, for instance, the renewal of the sprinkler installation, consultancy for UPS replacement, sustainability projects, etc.

To guarantee the continuity of ING's services, you will join the team in an availability service outside office hours, where you will coordinate the handling of malfunctions.

You supervise the maintenance parties contracted by ING, who use their own technical expertise to ensure that corrective and regular (preventive) maintenance is carried out at operational level. The maintenance parties support you in supplying and safeguarding data relating to technical laws and regulations. Think for instance of NEN2767, NEN3140, etc. You have a tactical role in this, in which you must guarantee the laws and regulations.

Some other duties include:

  • Ensuring the continuity and availability of our technical installations.
  • Securing the various Assets in the maintenance management system (with support from the contractor).
  • Requesting and assessing quotes from (sub)contractors.
  • Assisting with the preparation of MJOP (Long-term Maintenance Plan) and MJOB (Budget).
  • Optimizing the performance of the technical infrastructure, both financially and in terms of ING's sustainability targets.

Your work environment

The team you will work in (OPS1) has as its focus area the building-related technical infrastructure of the data centres. This team works in close cooperation with the teams OPS2 (data room facilities), DC CoE (knowledge and consulting team) and Haas (IT Hardware).  Under the banner "Global Data Centre Services (GDS)", these departments provide overall data centre services for ING's IT users, both nationally and internationally.

It is a challenging work environment where an experienced team will introduce you to the installations, working methods and processes in a data centre. Once you have gained sufficient experience and feel comfortable taking on more responsibility you will start working independently within the team. The installations you will manage form the basis on which all ING applications and online services operate. A high-risk, high-impact work environment that calls on your technical creativity. It is a team where collegiality is paramount.

Who are you?

You are someone who functions well in a challenging complex technical environment. You have team spirit and do not mind working on consignment outside normal office hours. You are someone who dares to give well-founded opinions, is eager to learn and thinks analytically. If you feel at home with ING's values: integrity, honesty, sensible and responsible management of available budgets, we ask you to apply.

In addition, you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • At least MBO level 4
  • If you are recently graduated, please apply as well as we are also looking for a junior colleague
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, measurement & control engineering and data infrastructure and demonstrable work experience in these fields
  • Knowledge of contract management and environmental, safety and health & safety regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge of and affinity with laws and regulations and certifications (e.g., NEN2767, NEN3140. ISO27001 and ISO50001)
  • Good communication skills
  • Command of the English language
  • Accurate and eager to learn
  • Service-oriented, proactive, motivated and a positive attitude to work.

What do we offer?

  • Salary scale 9
  • 36-hour working week
  • 13th month and holiday allowance
  • Compensation for on-call duty
  • Training and education
  • Workplace in Rotterdam, occasionally in Roosendaal
  • Travel expense scheme based on a mobility pass with extensive public transport options and reimbursement of expenses for use of own transport
  • A good work-life balance, including a company laptop and phone so you can work where and when you want. Within ING we work in hybrid mode which means for this team that they work 2 weeks from home and 2 weeks in the office
  • 28 holidays for a 5-day working week; 1.5 diversity day, 2 extra days which can be used for voluntary work of a social nature.
